Officially Fall

Well, it is officially Fall.  Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons, but when it comes to renovating this house, it probably is my least favorite because we are always extremely busy which gives us little time for the house projects. Between all of the Jewish holidays, sports classes for the kids, sickness, and birthday parties almost every weekend, it is hard to get a minute in to do much with the house.

Last week, it was Yom Kippur and David went away for a business trip.  I also got really sick during the weekend so David was on 24/7 daddy duty and couldn’t get too much done- although he thinks he got a lot done.

The air vent in our laundry room has just become this annoying problem.  We want to make sure that there is enough airflow, but between the cabinet and where the vent is located, it’s been really difficult to deal with.  David had to rip out the flooring and cut a big hole to make it work.  After a ton of dust, noise, and a lot of work, the vent is exactly how we wanted it.

Major Wallpaper Progress

We still have a long way to go, but I can finally share some major laundry room progress with you all! David was up until midnight the other night installing our wallpaper and it looks absolutely amazing. I hate doing laundry, but I feel like this wallpaper puts me in a good mood and maybe I won’t mind it so much anymore.  Hopefully he is able to finish the cabinets this weekend so that we can order our countertop, sink, and other fun stuff.

Have a happy great weekend!

4 Months Later

Our table has arrived…for the second time! We ordered it in April/May-ish and it was on backorder until August. There was a specific date, but I don’t remember when it was. That date rolled around and we were so excited for the table to be delivered, but were disappointed when we got a phone call telling us that it was time to schedule our delivery. Apparently the date on our invoice wasn’t a delivery date, but a date to confirm that it would be shipped out. We only had to wait a week for it to get here which seemed like another 4 months.

Finally the table arrived. The delivery guys said for 20 bucks they would bring it into the house, but David wanted to do it himself- typical. The box looked really damaged but it was hard to tell if the table was damaged too. You guys, this table is heavy. It took a long time and a ton of strength for David to get it inside by himself. We were actually shocked that he was able to do it on his own.

Once it was safely in the kitchen, we opened it with excitement and were disappointed yet again at how incredibly damaged the table was. We were nervous that it would take another 4 months to get a new table. And we weren’t sure if it was the shipping company’s responsibility or the shop where we purchased the table, but after amazing customer service, they shipped us a new one and told us to keep the damaged one.

Our new table arrived (mostly) damage free and we couldn’t be more happy with it!

Laundry RoomWallpaper

I personally am ok with wild patterns and bold colors in any room, but for those who are skeptical about that, I think the laundry room is the perfect room to go crazy in.  I had a very specific wallpaper in mind, and have seen it used on so many Pinterest pins.  It is truly stunning, however for some reason I have been hesitant to use it.  It definitely isn’t the most neutral pattern, and it isn’t the cheapest.  It makes me nervous that a future buyer would look at it and maybe use it as a deal breaker not to buy the house.  It’s one thing if it was the only room with wallpaper in the house, but both kids rooms have pretty busy patterns, so this room should be a little calmer.

Over the long weekend, I was searching through a bunch of Labor Day sales and came across what I believe to be the perfect wallpaper.  We got really lucky because it is officially sold out, and I can’t even find a picture of it to show you all.  I guess that means you have to be patient and wait to see it once we start installing it, but it is fabulous!

Have a great weekend!

Progress Plateau

Oh hey, remember me?! It has been way too long. Now that David is doing the majority of the work, our progress obviously depends on him.

Right when Eli finished camp, he got really sick. Awful fever, awful cough, it was the worst. Naturally, Dax got sick, and then just when you thought I would be the one to get sick, David got sick. He actually had it the worst. Eventually I got sick and we all just kept passing it back and forth.

Because of us all being out of commission, it made it kind of impossible to get stuff done around here. This weekend, we were finally back in action. David worked long and hard on the laundry room and got so much done. This room became a lot bigger of a project than we planned for so it’s also taking a lot longer to finish than we planned for.

Since the laundry room was previously a bedroom, it had a closet. We don’t really have a need for a closet, so we ripped it out, carpet and all. Still not sure if we will use the area to hang dry clothes, but I’m thinking that it’s a good space for that. The goal was to have the cabinets installed, they aren’t finished because there was a lot more to installing them than we anticipated.  David built the bases for the cabinets to make them level with the washing machine and dryer. They don’t look “level” in this picture yet because he hasn’t finished screwing the levels on the legs of the cabinets, but I promise that they will be!

After looking at it, David thinks that he needs to raise the cabinets a little higher.  I honestly can’t tell, but what’s one more thing to do? I think we decided on our counters, and after months and months and months, we finally decided and ordered wallpaper. We decided to go bold and fun since it’s a laundry room, but more on that later.

Hopefully now that we are all better, there will be more progress which means more blog posts. Stay tuned!
